First Time Floaters: Ease Your Mind

Nervous about floating

At Drift Floatation Center, we understand that first time floaters may have a lot of questions and concerns. That's why we make it our priority to ensure that you are comfortable and at ease before you even step foot into the pod. We want to make sure that your floatation experience is enjoyable and stress-free.

Staff

Jen and Bonnie, the owners of Drift, are not only passionate about floatation therapy, but also strive to provide one-on-one attention to each and every client. Avid floaters prior to opening up their business, they also took advantage of a comprehensive entrepreneurial float training program in Utah. This hands-on experience provided not only a wealth of knowledge on sanitation, safety and maintenance, but tips on successfully running such a unique client-centered business from industry leaders. They are proud to be the only float center in the region to have completed this program.

Prior to Your Float

At Drift Floatation Center, we do everything to ensure you are comfortable prior to stepping foot in the pod. Our website and Facebook page provide comprehensive information about floatation therapy and what to expect during your visit. Additionally, our Welcome Packet offers even more details on preparing for and experiencing your float. We also encourage all first-time floaters to arrive early for a brief video/orientation and tour so that we can address any additional questions or concerns.

Tips for a Successful First Float

  • If you are worried about feeling claustrophobic, this is quite common. Feel free to leave the lid propped or even open.

  • Use the earplugs provided. Keeping the ear canal free of water creates less pressure, plus the music is easier to hear.

  • Take a few minutes to try some different arm positions. Once you are comfortable, you should try to remain still letting your entire body rest.

  • If your neck and shoulders feel tight, you may choose to use the float Halo provide for extra head support.

  • Experiment with the lights and buttons. See if you prefer floating with chromotherapy lighting or in total darkness. And whether you enjoy soothing music or silence.

  • Control your breathing. As you become relaxed heart rate and blood pressure lower, as does brain activity. This is the point that the magic begins, and many people drift in and out of consciousness.

  • If you find your mind wandering, try to distract yourself. Counting backwards may help.

After Your Float

We are dedicated to providing you with the best possible floating experience. When you finish your session, meet us back in the lobby for a complimentary cup of tea and a cookie. We'll be eager to chat with you about your experience and provide information on what to expect in the days following your float.

My husband and I float once a month and it is our favorite day of the month! Float therapy is the most wonderful way to heal my body and let my mind rest! So thankful we met Jen and Bonnie. Incredibly grateful that we have somewhere closer than the big city to enjoy such a wonderful natural remedy for pain and stress!
